Blog 11: Holiday Project Update

1.  It is important to consistently work on your senior project, whether it is break or we are in school.  What did you do over the break with your senior project?

  • I think working on senior project consistently during break or went we are in school is important because the knowledge you gain from your senior project will help you explain the key points about your project. during break I've went to Casa Colina at least 2-3 times a week to gain more knowledge to answer my EQ and went to visit my mentor to see how she can help me find possible answers to my EQ.

2.  What was the most important thing you learned from what you did, and why?  What was the source of what you learned?
  • The most important thing I've learned is that nurses have to always make sure they properly put on their PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) on and always use hand hygiene as a daily routine when entering and leaving a room.
3.  If you were going to do a 10 question interview on questions related to answers for your EQ, who would you talk to and why?

  • If I had to do a 10 question interview that relates to the answers of my EQ, I would talk to my mentor Gloria because she has been working in the hospital for many years now and dealt with other nurses who also have encountered with patients with infectious diseases.

Blog 10:EQ

Content

1.   Review this.  Confirm by stating "I reviewed the rule of three for writing an EQ."

Essential Question
Once a topic is chosen, the student will develop a working essential question.  The purpose of the working essential question is to help the student build a strong foundation of research which will allow him or her to create an essential question that encourages depth and rigor in the chosen topic.  An essential question must:

  • Provide a framework for studies (It calls for breadth and depth of research, Is not a yes/no question)
  • Take a stance (It allows you to argue some point, Cannot be a recitation of facts or a list)
  •  Format (It is specific, The wording makes sense)
I have reviewed the rule of three for writing an EQ.

2.  Review the following EQs and

  • Tell us if each meets the rule of three.
  • Tell why they do or don't.
 a.  What is the most important factor in healthy weight loss?
  • Yes, it tells what is the person's topic and can be argued and supported with research.
 b.  What is most important to securing a conviction in a criminal investigation?
  • No, wording doesn't make sense if it was, " What is the most important factor in..."
 c.  What is most important in creating a hairstyle that best satisfies a customer?
  • No, the wording doesn't make sense in the beginning.
 d.  How can an anesthesiologist best treat chronic pain?
  • Yes, the EQ is clear and allows for multiple answers with supported research.

3.  Based on your review of the rule of 3 and your experience with assessing four EQs, please write another draft EQ for your senior project.  The senior team will be meeting with students shortly for EQ revision and approval; you are expected to bring your research notebook to that meeting with your EQ draft written inside in pencil.

Blog 8 - Research and Working EQ

1.  What is your working EQ?
  • What is the best way to educate and help nurses in protecting themselves from infectious diseases and illnesses?
2.  What is a possible answer to your working EQ? Please write the answer in thesis format.
  • Nurses that work with isolation patients should be informed about the how to protect themselves with the materials that are given to them.
  • Staffing and other nurses should help each other in educating and training each other on how to protect themselves by using all of their resources.
3.  What is the most important source you have used that has helped you come up with an answer to your working EQ?
  • The most important source that I've used is where I go volunteer at every Saturday, by my observation and talking to other nurses on how they keep their nurses and volunteers protected and informed about ways to not get an infectious disease and transfer it to another patient.
4.  Who is your mentor, or where are you doing mentorship, and how does what you are doing relate to your working EQ?
  • My mentor is Gloria Detabali and she has helped me in the past on understanding the nursing profession, she has told me that working in the profession is a very risky job because not matter how much you protect yourself from not getting the infected with a sickness or disease with vaccines or protective scrubs and gloves, you have a chance in getting it but having the right education and proper training it is possible that it will not get it.

Blog 5: Mentorship and Research Reflection

Mentorship question: Describe your experience in how you found your mentorship?
  • Finding a mentor was kind of hard for me to find. During the summer I didn't have a mentor at first, but a couple of weeks ago I found two mentors that will help me and answer my questions for my senior project.
Research question: What has been your most important article you have read so far and why?
  •  The most important article the I have read so far is a book called, "Change Your Career: Nursing As Your New Profession" by Barbara Arnoldussen. This book helped me discover the nursing profession more interesting. While reading the book, it helped me answer my EQ and also gave me more information about the profession that I didn't know. When I read the book, I found out that the nursing profession is branched to 36 different types of nurses. I didn't know that there is a pacifically for head and neck injures, helping a newly mother how to breastfeed, and that care and support patients that are diagnosed with cancer. Also, I discovered that there is a nurse that works at camps, government and private agencies, a flight nurse that helps transfer patients by helicopter or ambulance, and nurses that work in the Navy, Army, and Air Force to provide medical care for the soldiers.

3. When going to all the presentations some of the things I picked up from them and I think that are important parts on senior project. When picking presenting in front of people/ fellow classmates, you have to look confidante, relaxed, give a lot of information about your topic, and don't use and read off your notes that much.

4. I've thinking of doing something related to the medical field like nursing, pharmacist, neonatal nursing care, or nutritionist. I picked those because I know some people that can get me mentors for those topics.

5. I enrolled myself it volunteer at Citrus Valley Medical Center- Queen of the Valley and at Citrus Valley Medical Center- Inter-Community. And I'm trying to enroll myself at Loma Linda University Health for my internship.
